BMW diesel engines, including the popular 320d, 520d and X5 30d, produce a high volume of soot under certain driving conditions. The DPF captures this soot, but it relies on regular high-temperature regeneration cycles to burn it off.
Short urban journeys, frequent cold starts and stop-start driving prevent the filter from reaching regeneration temperature. Soot builds up, the BMW DPF warning light appears on the dashboard and the engine enters limp mode.
This is one of the most common faults we see across BMW 1 Series, 3 Series, 5 Series and X5 models.

If you are seeing any of these, do not ignore them. The earlier we intervene, the less it costs.
We read BMW fault codes to confirm the DPF blockage level and check for any contributing issues such as EGR faults or fuel delivery problems.
A specialist DPF cleaning fluid is introduced to break down compacted soot deposits inside the filter.
We run a controlled forced regen cycle to burn off loosened deposits and restore filter capacity.
We rescan to confirm DPF soot load readings are back in range and clear BMW-specific warning codes.
Not on the list? Get in touch. If it is a BMW diesel, we can almost certainly help.
A replacement BMW DPF can cost anywhere from £800 to £2,500 or more depending on the model. Cleaning is almost always the right first step and costs a fraction of that.
We will tell you honestly before we start if the filter is beyond cleaning. No guesswork, no wasted money.

Yes. We carry out forced regeneration using professional diagnostic equipment connected to the BMW. This is the most effective way to clear a blocked filter.
Yes. Limp mode caused by a blocked DPF is one of the most common BMW faults we deal with. We can get most vehicles out of limp mode on the same visit.
Regular longer drives of 20 to 30 minutes at motorway speed allow passive regeneration to occur. If your BMW is used mainly for short journeys, an occasional longer drive makes a significant difference.
In most cases, yes. We clear all BMW DPF-related fault codes as part of the service.
